A different way to ask for help, built carefully.
Calyn started from a simple observation: most people who need support never reach a therapist's office. We're building the support they actually use.
One in two adults will struggle with their mental health in their lifetime. Fewer than one in five will ever sit across from a clinician.
The gap is not a lack of willingness. It’s waitlists, cost, geography, language, stigma, and the dozen small frictions between a hard night and a calendar invite three weeks out. We built Calyn for the moments those frictions win.
What we are
Calyn is an AI companion, informed by evidence-based therapeutic frameworks (CBT, ACT, IFS, motivational interviewing), and designed around one principle: the experience should feel like talking to someone who is actually listening.
We’re not a chatbot with a friendly tone. We’re a focused tool, with structured memory of your patterns, your goals, and what has worked for you, so each conversation builds on the last.
What we are not
We are not a replacement for a human therapist. We are not an emergency service. We do not diagnose, prescribe, or claim to treat clinical conditions. When a moment calls for a human, Calyn says so, immediately, and helps you find one.
Who we are
A small independent team of engineers and designers. There are no clinicians on staff and no advisory board, and we would rather say that plainly than imply credentials we don’t have. What Calyn draws on is published clinical research, and what it can and cannot do is set out in our disclosures.
Where to find us
We’re a small team based in Germany. Calyn is an iPhone app, available on the App Store, with Android to follow. You can reach us at contact, read what we believe in the manifesto, or just try Calyn.
